Our editors combine extensive product research with real buyer feedback to build these rankings. Prices and offers can change. How we choose · How our links work

Dinner should feel simpler, including the choice of what touches your food. A glass bowl makes the cooking visible and gives you an alternative to a coated basket. But the bowl is only part of the story. We compare four distinct models, check the plates and accessories, and separate useful material disclosures from promises that a new appliance will make you healthier.

The short answer

Which glass air fryer is best for your routine?

For a smaller kitchen, start with Ninja Crispi 4-in-1 Glass Air Fryer - Stone FN101ST. For a larger single cooking container, compare Ninja Crispi Pro 6-in-1 Glass Air Fryer - Bone AS101LG. For two dishes with different settings, consider Ninja Crispi DualZone Glass Air Fryer - Vista Green DD101GN2. If avoiding coated food-contact accessories is your main requirement, investigate Fritaire Classic Glass Air Fryer - Sage Green first. These are best-fit recommendations from specifications, not measured cooking-performance winners.

Are other air fryers toxic? What the evidence actually says

It is not accurate to call all conventional air fryers toxic. BfR’s assessment of PTFE cookware expects no adverse health effects when used as intended. It warns that severe overheating around 360°C / 680°F and above can produce hazardous gases. This is general cookware evidence, not an individual appliance test.

PTFE, PFOA and PFAS are different labels

PTFE, often associated with Teflon, belongs to the broad PFAS family. PFOA is a different member of that family. “PFOA-free” alone does not establish “PTFE-free” or “PFAS-free.” Environmental persistence and the exposure from an individual appliance are different questions.

Damage is a maintenance issue, not proof of poisoning

BfR does not expect harm from accidentally swallowed PTFE particles. Follow the maker’s guidance for damaged baskets and cleaning.

A glass bowl can still contain a coated plate

Ninja’s Crispi documentation describes aluminum crisper plates with nano-ceramic coatings. Its US comparison labels the cooking surfaces PFAS- and PTFE-free. “Ceramic-coated” is not the same as an uncoated ceramic vessel, and “glass” does not make the appliance plastic-free. Fritaire states that its food-contact accessories are uncoated stainless steel. These disclosures identify construction; we have not tested migration or emissions.

See Ninja’s component information, Pro family FAQ, DualZone family FAQ and Fritaire’s materials statements. Regional models can differ: match the US SKU and ask the maker if a component is unclear.

What glass improves — and what it cannot guarantee

A glass cooking container avoids a nonstick coating on the bowl itself and lets you see browning. It also adds weight and can break. Check spare-bowl availability, the space needed to lift a hot lid, and how comfortably you can wash and carry the full container. Usable floor area matters more than adding up every included bowl: the portable Crispi and Pro cook in one container at a time.

Food safety still depends on the cook

FDA explains that acrylamide forms during high-temperature frying, roasting and baking. A glass bowl does not prevent it. Aim for golden rather than heavily browned starchy foods and avoid burning. USDA recommends checking meat and poultry with a food thermometer; visible browning is not proof of a safe center temperature. Follow the manual, leave ventilation space, clean grease buildup and never immerse the electrical heating head.

Worth watching: Fritaire Deluxe is a preorder

The Deluxe Terracotta is listed at $269.99 with a 6-qt slide-out bowl and 1500W power. It is not counted among our four current picks. Its page gives conflicting dispatch timing, including early December and mid-November. Confirm delivery before paying; we cannot recommend it as an immediate-shipment alternative.

Buy for a real need

This selection is for US shoppers, with USD snapshots checked October 17, 2026. Prices can change and exclude shipping and tax. Do not import a US-voltage unit for a different electrical system. A current listing is not a delivery guarantee. Compare maintainable stovetop cookware and glass and steel food storage if your need is simpler than another appliance.

Compare before you buy

What earns a place in this edit?

Our shortlist favors disclosed food-contact materials, a clear everyday use, useful capacity, cleaning and replacement-part information, and dated US prices. These are research-based picks, not a hands-on crispness test, laboratory migration test or medical safety ranking. Manufacturer PFAS-free claims are attributed, not independently certified by us. Colors and bundles are not separate recommendations.

“Best” means our editorial pick for a stated use within this selection. Each selection reflects the products and evidence covered in this guide. A reusable product pays its way only when you actually reuse it.

A few useful answers

Before you choose

Are conventional air fryers toxic?

That blanket claim is not supported. Some use PTFE nonstick coatings; others use different surfaces. BfR expects no adverse health effects from properly used PTFE cookware, while severe overheating can release hazardous gases. This general cookware evidence is not an emissions test of an individual air fryer.

Does PFOA-free mean PTFE-free or PFAS-free?

No. PFOA is one substance; PTFE is a fluoropolymer within the broader PFAS group. A statement about PFOA alone does not identify the entire coating. Ask for the bowl, tray and rack materials for the exact model.

Is a Ninja Crispi completely uncoated?

No. Ninja describes nano-ceramic-coated aluminum crisper plates in its Crispi family documentation. Its US comparison identifies PFAS- and PTFE-free cooking surfaces. Those claims are compatible: a surface can be coated without using PTFE. Confirm the exact replacement plate before ordering.

Which option suits someone avoiding coated food-contact accessories?

Fritaire Classic is the option to examine first in this shortlist: the brand states that its glass bowl and stainless steel accessories have no chemical coatings on food-contact surfaces. That is a manufacturer disclosure, not our independent exposure test.

Does glass prevent acrylamide?

No. Acrylamide can form in starchy foods during high-temperature cooking regardless of bowl material. Avoid burning or excessively dark browning; changing the vessel does not remove the food-chemistry issue.

Is a glass window the same as a glass cooking bowl?

No. A window can sit in front of a coated metal basket. This guide selects glass cooking containers, then separately checks plates, racks, handles and lids.

Can I use any glass dish or replacement rack?

Use only glassware and accessories approved for that model. Check for chips or cracks, respect the manual’s temperature-transition instructions and keep storage lids out of cooking unless explicitly permitted. Heat resistance does not mean shatterproof.

Should I replace a working air fryer immediately?

A materials preference is a reason to investigate your model, not evidence that it is poisoning you. Check the manual and condition first. Replace damaged accessories as directed and choose a new appliance when it fills a real need.
